This week I will attend the Annual Obesity Conference in Austin, Texas with my wife Dr.Michelle Radke. It is the 4th conference I have attended since 2004 and they have been fantastic ways to learn new ideas regarding non-surgical weight loss. Some of the topics will include: childhood obesity, diet pop safety, low carb diets and upcoming weight loss medications.
This is the 10th anniversary of my first weight loss conference which I naively attended in Atlanta, Georgia. At the time, I was in need of continuing medical education credits and selected this particular conference for both personal and professional reasons; the weight issues I had struggled with my whole life were made worse by residency training. The Atlanta conference fueled my interest in obesity medicine, thus motivating me to incorporate it into my medical practice: Valley Weight Loss Clinic was born. These bi-annual conferences are a great way for me to recommit, refocus and re-energize my passion for helping patients lose weight and be healthier. I plan to apply what I learn over the next four days from cutting-edge experts in the field; including gaining information on new weight loss medications, techniques, studies and treatment options.
This year, as we celebrate 10 years of Valley Weight Loss Clinic; Susan, Lindsay, Cathy, Laura Jodi, Susie and I will have special events and new programs for 2015. To enhance our online presence, over the next six months, I will be sharing both my professional opinions as well as my personal journey with weight loss on our blog site. It will include the latest topics in weight loss news, comments on Dr. Oz and others, exciting new medical research and whatever else I come across studying for my Obesity Medicine Boards in December. Included in the entries will be my own struggles, triumphs and patient experiences. Issues with vacations, winter, stress and “the holidays” will be discussed as well.
I, with the help of the professional Valley staff, will journal my quest to lose the last 40 (of 90) pounds, I vowed to lose when I began this journey in Atlanta 10 years ago. I invite you to return to this site to learn, share and recharge as part of your weight loss and wellness journey.
