Burgers on the grill are often part of our summer celebrations. Consider building a better burger so you can stick with your healthy eating while still enjoying the celebration. Here are a few tips for building a better burger.
The Meat: Consider grilling up a turkey burger or perhaps use game meat which tends to be leaner. Aim for a 4oz patty to save some calories as well. (4oz looks like a deck of cards).
The Extras: Pile on the vegetables like tomatoes, lettuce, peppers and onions which are low in calories but can add a ton of flavor. Consider using these veggies instead of cheese or condiments that can be high in sugar.
The Condiments: Mustard, Siracha, ketchup can be higher in sodium and sugars so consider using these sparingly. Mayo and other similar dressings can add on the calories, so consider avoiding them.
With some small changes, you can save some calories and still ENJOY!
